What could summon the sun more than a woman wearing pearls and the perfect cocktail dress? On an unusually warm Sunday morning Susi decided it was high time I took some photographs of her so we plunged into her very big wardrobe and found a few amazing pieces that needed to be highlighted...and what a wonderful morning we had! Susi, an avid shoe collector and always one to shop with, is my go-to when I am in Hamburg and also someone who is always on the lookout for something new and exciting, be it food, the opera, or that perfect scarf that can take an outfit into new dizzying fashion heights. Thank you, Susi, for trusting me and my camera...I hope you approve...

Anna...Part 2

You may recognise her, although it has been a while since I have posted images of Anna on Dashing George. Take a late summer day and add a few gorgeous pieces to the mix and magical things can happen. Anna, still based in Hamburg, has changed a lot since our last collaboration. The silhouette may be the same, but the time in between our shoots have added a womanly appeal that makes the camera love her even more...I hope you enjoy the images, taken in the attic, where things that are normally dark become light...

Keeping with the vibe I am currently in, I have decided to do a very special Bombe du Mois this month, where my very own cousin, Aarti is the focal point. Thanks to careful introductions, I have been able to publish these remarkable photogrpahs, by an up and coming new photographer, Luke Hagemann...this is one to watch, people...The purpose behind his portrait series is to reveal emotion through the eyes, while highlighting the cultural and uniqueness of each individual. I think it has been carefully captured indeed.

Welcome to the world of newcomer, Luke Hagemann. Born in Grahamstown, he first pursued the Sciences, before his heart was called back to his first love, photography. After a few months of learning the trade, he has released a series of very personal portraits that caught my attention....and rightly so. The photographs are contemporary without following prescribed rules of cool, with an intimate touch that reflects the visibility and personality of each model. Luke's Instagram account is called Light Breathing Photography, so you can visit him there and his website is still being carefully pieced together, so that will be online soon.

Thank you Luke, for allowing me to publish the above images and I hope to feature you again very soon.

From the northern city of Hamburg, please welcome Omid, a friend and former colleague, who has a creative streak not only when it comes to his own attire, but also in the fashion and design he creates for the lucky few. When we met at work, his clever humour and interest in all that is fashionable, made him an interesting person to be around, making the dull working days somehow brighter with his wit and charm. With his tattoos and of course that incredible style, he is a head-turner in the good sense, creating a buzz wherever he goes.

Stumbling through the very chaotic city of Munich, there are many sights to take in…there is Bavarian culture everywhere you look and in the middle of all this, if you are lucky, then you spot someone exceptional…with a mane of blonde hair and almost-there pants, I found Lorenza to be the perfect antidote to the über-high end that Munich is known for. She mixes her look up wonderfully with an oversized Adidas jacket and boots. This is just enough streetwear to make any person do a double take and I am so thankful that she allowed me a bit of her time.

The day was spectacular, for winter in Switzerland. We had the most amazing blue sky, which, contrary to tradition here at Dashing George, made our shoot easy. Normally we are plagued with all weather forms that make shooting as hard as possible. We have had it all…gale force winds, rain, fog and yes, the drizzle that seems to land everywhere. So, what a surprise to finally have some luck.

Please say hello to Steven, our newest member of our Bombe du Mois club. He hails from the Swiss hills, as I do now, having been here over two years already (time does indeed fly). With the right approach (not taking a snapping camera too seriously) and the perfect leather jacket (which we all really want, let’s be honest), he kindly allowed us a bit of his time…and the results speak for themselves. In the end, the rustic landscape proved a worthy partner to his laid back style…just the right mix for this happy photographer.

With enough fashion savvy and laid back attitude, Laura is a true find in the city of Munich. Heading up her own store, which has the most amazing finds to brighten any dull day, she has her finger on the pulse of what is now and current. I love the cropped hair, the amazing style and of course, the energy that made taking these pictures a breeze!

Coco Chanel once said, ‘Fashion changes, but style endures’ and this is what springs to mind as I look over the photos of Krista. She was at work when we met and after a few introductions, she grabbed her bag and posed outside in the (usual) rainy Hamburg weather. From the first shot till the last, she was candid, vivacious and wildly interesting.

What strikes me most about her is her spirit and the twinkle in her eye. Her face is one that can tell a story, but refuses to be too open. There is just enough mystery there...with plenty of panache to make heads turn. The fact that she is slightly older than our other Bombe du Mois faces, does not in any way mean that she is not just as glamorous!

Uté

Meet Uté, who has been on our radar for a while now. She crossed my path in 2014, wearing the most divine polka dot blouse in downtown Cape Town and since then, I have wanted to see the designs she has now finished. When we meet on a hot summer’s day in the central business district in Cape Town, she is vivacious and totally humble about her work. There, on a wooden table, with our prying neighbour watching her in open fascination, she takes out her creations, explaining each to me in intricate detail…I am amazed at the delicate workmanship and her keen eye for making the unimaginable, real. Here are a few images from that day…

What could be more essential and adored than shoes? For centuries, shoes have played prominent roles, showing status, wealth and art. Today, shoes are varied and we are spoilt for choice and on this note, I thought it would be interesting to do a new type of Bombe du Mois, where a few people, scattered across the globe, present their favourites…and the selection is indeed eclectic and varied!
