There are concept stores springing up all across the globe…think of Merci in Paris, 10 Corso Como in Milan and then you have a true gem like Merchants on Long, in Cape Town, South Africa. The store that has a vision to bring African glamour to the fashion world in a unique and (dare we still use the word?) trendy location. From entering, it is clear that a very special selection has been made here. From cardigans, to bags, to pillows, all is here to tempt you. But, thank goodness, it is not the usual ‘african curios’ that you will find here. Instead, design and fine materials are at the focus of each collection represented here. The brainchild of Hanneli Rupert, it has become known for sourcing ethical fashion and creating a platform for up and coming South African designers. | Our attention was immediately drawn to the Okapi collection…okay, so you may think, okapi is actually the name for the zebra giraffe from Congo, but, when you see the wonderful accessories this company is churning, out, then the last thing on your mind will be the almost unknown zebra! We love the large pouch, springbok horns and cuff, pictured below, and it is indeed a wonderful new company to keep an eye on. For more wonderful products, go to www.okapi.com and for the entire Merchants On Long collection, visit them at www.merchantsonlong.com |
