When we read the coverage regarding what has happened in Paris last week, a strange feeling was felt by our team. This event was momentous for many reasons. It is still not safe for journalists to be outspoken. It is still a fertile time for ideologies that decide who is allowed to live or die. For us, journalists, last Wednesday heralded in a time where everything is being questioned and we are placed before decisions about what is safe or not to include in the press. It is alarming and shocking that in this day and age, we are still wondering about censorship when our readers want us to be honest and open. It is scary that men with guns can force the world’s press to question the safety of their employees should they run a planned feature article or picture.
While Dashing George may cover fashion and street style, it is still a voice and each and every voice that has the ability to reach people online should say that this is not acceptable. Haven’t we fought long and hard for our freedom? Haven’t we learned from the past and what this means for our future? Our fashion prognosis is simple: choose which side of the fence you want to stand on…be free or caged in.
