Taking a cue from Gwen Stefani's monster hit, 'Hollaback Girl', I had to post these pictures from Helsinki. EVERYTHING is amazing here...from the rubber teddy bear pendant, to the IKEA blue and Africa-inspired necklace...a melting pot of note, and then against the lush setting of a Scandanavian city park. You cannot get more globalisation than that, surely?

Maybe I spoke too soon about spring being sprung this side...it is raining and it probably will stay this way for the rest of the day, so boo hoo to that. To counter these miserable tidings of joy, I am posting a favourite from my walk through sunny Helsinki as an antidote, not only to bad weather, but potential bad moods as well. The lesson I take from this is bad weather is inevitable but, a healthy smile is a gift...
Helsinki was established by King Gustav 1 of Sweden in 1550 and since, the city has retained a nordic flair, while being friendly and welcoming....a feat, considering just how packed it is with tourists! What makes this city so special is the fact that it is part of the southern peninsula as well as 315 islands! A geographical wonder indeed. This welcoming and friendly manner was definitely present when I met the above model while walking through the busy streets. I love the laid back skater look and of course the long hair (very Kurt Cobain, but far cleaner)...
Monday morning and I finally have a blue sky after about a week of solid rain. So, I thought I would stick with blue and post this Helsinki shot taken by Jürgen on the last trip. Three more posts to follow and then the Helsinki file will close...so, have a great start to the week and stay positive...on this side we are heading into spring, so my optimism knows no bounds this morning...
Wearing muted tones can easily turn any woman into a grey mouse, even if most of the fashion houses are still playing the 'blend into the background' game this season. This outift manages to be relaxed, yet each stand-alone jersey piece is cleverly selected to not only highlight the comfort factor, but also the added bonus of complimenting each other fully. And, with this amount of sunshine, Helsinki has once again proven itself to be a city worth visiting.
To counter the rain pouring outside, I have to post something sunny and nothing spells summer for me more than this white fine-knit t-shirt and relaxed trousers...and pair with this helathy, glowing hair...nothing beats this. I had to have her for the blog and she was kind enough to allow me to click away...like I said, Helsinki is just jam-packed with friendly people...
Challenging and also out of the ordinary...this is what struck me about our next face. I love the openness he had when we met on the street...and the very casual approach he had to posing...all in all, the nod to seventies chic via the awesome sunglasses and wild hair, mixed with the spot-on trendy jeans and sneakers, made me HAVE to snap him up for all of you.
Helsinki, home to 29% of the Finnish population, has a lot to offer. I was surprised and delighted to see that they truly embrace visitors, making you feel at home by flashing smiles and being approachable. Helsinki may be a bit on the expensive side, but with this comes the welcomed cleanliness and seaside charm, making you forget about the price of your beer...it is a city with wondeful monuments, a good gastronomy scene and easy walking tours, making the city feel smaller than it really is...and the people-spotting was exceptional...
