The beard is a subject of much controversy. It is loathed by many, some going to so far as to say that the beard is indeed a classic cover up for a lack of personality. While the beard has been in almost all fashion editorials and the subject of much debate, it remains one of the forms of expression still left to men the globe over. It has in many cultures a real significance and it is a signifier of position and authority. We, here at Dashing George, love the look above, spotted at a salon in Nuremberg. It is proportionally sound and adds definition to our model's face. And, let's face it...it takes guts to wear it! Women are fortunate that they have so many ways to reinvent themselves. They can play with make-up, hairstyles and have countless clothing and shoe choices. For men, the list of acceptable accessories and clothing styles are rather limited. This is why I support the beard. I myself have a moustache and while the world may say it is 'out' to wear a beard or any other facial hair, i say, as the British do, 'poppycock'! Allow us men the possibility of reinventing ourselves too...as Madonna once said: 'Express what he's got, oh baby ready or not!' Back on track and the golden autumn days are in full swing our side of the Swiss hills...and this means it is the best time to be finalising looks and editorials. Our Bombe du Mois is being fine-tuned and is looking good...we are always so happy to have a male model, as I feel the men are a bit neglected in the fashion world...look at any store and the men's section is always the smallest! But, I don't want to harp on about this, so I will stay positive and I am glad to say that some wonderful photographs will be coming your way at the end of the week, so keep your eyes glued to this space!
With a birthday firmly tucked under one arm, I made my way last week to the city of Hamburg. There, with way too much rain, I managed to touch base with a few friends and also meet up with my old boss, who was kind enough to allow me two inside peeks: the first being an introduction to a wonderful artist and the second, being his new store that opened its doors last week. Now, back in Switzerland, the suitcase is yet again open and a new adventure starts tomorrow…more about that later, though.
Hamburg proved to be kind and open, as always. Thank you to Ria for introducing me to her colleague who posed for my camera, despite the weather conditions, and to all those who made my birthday extra special (including my awesome hostess, Susanne) I say a big thank you…another year and another era is marching on…here’s to even more escapades and madness… Hello to you all and I hope your Sunday is running smoothly, with feet up and hopefully you are all in jogging trousers and watching mindless TV or out getting some fresh air. We are finally delving into our Nuremberg file and hope you will adore this next picture. She was spotted in the city and we love the statement necklace and print blouse. A perfect combination when teamed with wonderful, healthy hair…see, ladies, less is more here! Our top choices for statement pieces has to be this Oasis Pave Leaf Open Torque Necklace from Asos, selling at 22,75 euros, or this Queenbee Collar necklace from baublebar.com selling at 68 dollars. Finally, we have to of course include something from our fave statement piece designer, Shourouk, and here we have to get our hands on this Twiggy necklace retailing at 700 euros. When you are in Nuremberg, there is a lot to take in. You have the churches, the square, the countless little alleys and of course you have to avoid the masses…and there are a lot of tourists, regardless of what time of day or season. You will always be hassled and shoved a bit, but this is part of the package. So, this next streetstyler, was a welcome relief indeed when I spotted her in the city centre. I loved the scarf in her hair and when I looked further, I had to smile at her clever outfit, combined with the effortless chic of a Celine bag. We love this look! Packing yet another suitcase and this time the city of Luxembourg is our destination where so many cultures meet...we hope the city has a lot to offer our humble little camera... so, have a wonderful weekend and drop us a line when you have the time...
