sunglasses taken from nordstrom.com Stars and stripes and all that is in-between will always grab our attention. Take this great top, spotted on the Zurich streets. It is the perfect evolution of the classic blue and white striped nautical top that is always a hit at summer. And if it is good enough for Karl, then for us it is a must for wardrobes across the globe. Karl, whose latest collection for his own brand (no Chanel or Fendi) featured all that makes St Tropez special, hence plenty of blue and white to make us all long for the beach…we love our model’s shorts (lace) and the perfect flats…and uncomplicated, healthy hair is a must for any woman roaming the big city streets. blazer taken from zara.com, boots from unger-fashion.com & bag from topshop.com With the fashion world forever spinning toward the new and fresh, we turn our attention to a new designer on our horizon. Please pay a warm welcome to Omid Qala-Nawi. After working for a few weeks with Omid, in fashion retail, it became clear to me that Omid’s place was not behind a shop counter. He was destined for bigger and greater things! With an outgoing personality and style that turned heads in the suburb of Eppendorf, Omid was his fashion personified.
Based in Hamburg, Omid has finished his degree at the prestigious JAK Akademie. His label is called Artificium and captures the energy that he is now well known for in the Hamburg fashion scene. It is punky, androgynous, with careful attention to fabric and cut. It is a label not for the faint–hearted as he is clear to point out. It is through this label that Omid wants to present something new and challenging for the fashionistas. What sets Artificium’s clothing apart from what is now available is the idea of art merging with fashion. While last season, many designers turned to the old masters for inspiration and even great houses like Dior took their collection to a ‘Dali’ extreme, Mr Qala-Nawi is clearly looking at art in the future. Here, it is modern, with a punch indeed. Plans are in the pipeline for an online store. Focus pieces will be sweaters, shirts and trousers. In the meantime, you can contact Omid, through his Facebook site: https://www.facebook.com/Artificiumdesign?fref=photo Picture credit: Banner from Who Is Ok When a girl hits Amsterdam with the speed of a bullet train, then of course the city is in for a ride. And so, our once-featured ‘Bombe du Mois’ was in Amsterdam (on work, sadly, and not purely for pleasure) and she decided to share her shopping that she did in the bustling metropolis… We start with the t-shirt that will define the wardrobe: from Ichi, in light grey (here pictured in soft pink), it is the perfect partner to her skinny black jeans and heels. And one to spot good branding, Romy found the enviable pair of super skinny blue jeans, from hot denim label, Denham And I just HAD to send her off to one of my favourite stops while shopping, COS, the luxury sister company to H&M. There, she found the basic that will solve all her problems when going from business to casual, with this great jersey jacket (which she plans to team up with killer heels and her Denham jeans. And, since Amsterdam is so creative, then you must not forget some accessoires: like this wooden deco objet , book darts, ring, bar of soap (we love the packaging) and notebook…and to show that she was not only thinking of herself, she also picked up this great sweater from Denham for her boyfriend! I think we can all safely agree that Romy is indeed working a bit of Victoria Beckham mojo in her new look and we applaude the nod to one of our own style icons! And across our path, comes this next model, spotted strolling through central Cape Town without a care in the world. We love his ‘dressed down’ look, with cool trendy sneakers and wonderful old school sunglasses. Of course, he shows his fashion sense with the rather marvelous striped beach bag and worn-in shorts. Sneakers and t-shirt taken from brownsfashion.com & shorts taken from h&m.com It isn’t every day that we here at Dashing George, have the possibility of showcasing talent from South Africa, home of Anil, Content Editor of the blog. It is wonderful when we can present African fashion with modern edges and we are so happy to have come across the label, Tina Ngxokolo. Named after the designer herself, it is a great collection (with an Interior Design label coming soon) with wonderful eclectic touches and fabrics to make you dream of warm nights under the African stars. Tina is from the Mpondo clan and manages to incorporate her heritage into her designs. A fresh graduate, after winning best range 2013, she is setting out to make her mark on the fashion map and we are glad for it!
