Colour is not only something girls can enjoy. For the boys, there are wonderful new creations floating around: case in point, the knitwear from Roberto Collina. A wonderful knitwear company, located close to Bologna, with a tradition dating back to the 50’s. With so many companies manufacturing in the far east, this company is proud to admit that its products are made solely in Italy! And ladies, there are wonderful knitted pieces for you too, so for more info, log on to www.robertocollina.com (first two pictures taken at Premium, which features a Roberto Collina sweater, two other photos courtesy of kissuomo.it and are from the current Lookbook for autumn/winter 2013 13/14).

The fabled tale has a prince looking for his princess-to-be with the help of a glass slipper. In 2013, the princess-to-be already has her destiny mapped out and has no need for a slipper, or any help from a manly suitor. She has the bag, the wardrobe and indeed the shoes! Architectural heels are the biggest thing this season…where ballerinas end and platforms begin, here the focus is on creating art for feet…and we stumbled across a wonderful shoe company called United Nude (unitednude.com) where creative director Rem D Koolhaas and founder Galahad Clark, create exceptional shoes for exceptional women. The first picture below was taken at Premium Fashion Fair and the following two are our favourites from the current collection (courtesy of the website, www.unitednude.com).
Yellow is the colour of summer and warmth. Amid the trendsetters at the Berlin Fashion Week, this pixie-like model stood out in the crowd, with an almost-ethereal presence. With short hair, a maxi skirt and a very washed out T-shirt, she was a breath of fresh air amidst all the buyers and fashion scouts. For a similar look, we found a great buy online at Mango.com (pictured below, courtesy of the website, it retails at £19.99/€23). For a more luxe option, Matches.com offers a great pleated version from AR (picture courtesy of the website), selling on Sale for €190.
What could be more appropriate in summer than espadrilles? This fashionista was spotted in the subway in Berlin and we were entranced by the great mix of the expected and unexpected. The unexpected being the studded black leather bag…which was a contrasting accessory to the all-white summer look and vintage glasses. All in all, a great mix of clashing materials. Ladies, if you are looking for a similar bag, Alexander Wang has a great model called Rocco (pictured below, courtesy of net-a-porter.com) retailing at €930.
While the fashion has gone all bright in summer, it was a welcome relief to see that some people at the fashion fairs in berlin remained neutral and focused on super basics. Here we have a classic that has been marvelously updated by Levis. We had to stop and photograph our next model due to the great buckles and the understated black and white graphic dress, which appealed to our love of classic black and white (another key trend for winter, by the way!). Our fashion find online in the denim jeans department has to be the MOTO Stud Western Jacket from Topshop (retailing at £120).The attached photo is courtesy of Topshop.com…but why stop there? Why not try something totally crazy, like this banana-print denim jacket, also from Topshop and retailing at £60? Josephine Baker, eat your heart out!
With more than a mere wink to the wild west, our next model walked across our path at the Premium Fair. With a cleverly embroidered shirt , which was a bit ahead of its time when we see that Topman has a line coming out soon with embroidered shirts. A similar style can be found at Gentlershop.com (photo underneath shows a great style, we adore, here at Dashing George HQ). With horn sunglasses (Triwa has a wonderful pair called Turtle Ernest, which we almost bought at Park Boutique in Weidenstieg 11, Hamburg!), a contrast silk bow-tie and studded lace-ups, our urban cowboy had enough fashion swagger to stop traffic!
At the Premium fashion fair, people love to be noticed, after all, this is an event where the fashion crazy have a moment to truly glow and they max this situation for all it is worth, by rushing through their closets and mixing up outfits to showcase their fashion sense. We were a bit under-dressed for the fair, when you look at the next picture, and thus we were in awe of the great mix of stripes. Black and white is, as always, very Chanel. The dress and matching bag (in alternating stripes…oh, how we love this!) is a clever nod to Marni and Prada as we can see in the attached photo of Claudia Schiffer (taken from source: fashion.telegraph.co.uk , photo from Harper’s Bazaar by Horst Diekgerdes). Her shoes cleverly reference Chanel’s hot must-have platform trainer from the 2013 Cruise Collection (attached photo sourced from thenewwrink.wordpress.com).
At the Capsule, a fair for mainly men’s fashion, we came across this wonderful outfit. It ticks a lot of the right boxes for us. For one, the wonderful necklace, which seals the dress so well. It is of course in silver, with outspread wings, which cleverly highlights another key trend this season: silver ornate jewellery. As denim is a hot trend for spring/summer 2014, our model is ahead of the fashion pack with her rodeo-print jeans-shirt dress. And, as is typical for Berlin, she finishes her look off with a savvy nod to cool streetstyle with her used-look Converse trainers!
Who says that only the girls are allowed to have fun? Here, at the Premium Fashion fair last week, the men were also all decked out in their finest, showing the ladies that they have enough fashion gusto to make even seasoned bloggers sit up and take note. The following gentleman managed to stop us in our tracks with his clever ensemble. The jacket, indian –inspired with a smart elephant pattern, is perfectly matched with a classic striped shirt. The chinos are rolled up to just the right height, and in blue, follows the blazer perfectly. His suede, dark brown brogues are worn in just enough to make them effortlessly cool! All in all, a great summer look that would fit in perfectly in Portofino, LA or even here in Berlin…
Who said that Hauptbahnhof, or to those outside Germany, Central Station, is grey and boring? Whoever said this, has never been to Berlin! Because even here, amidst the dull and weary travellers passing through this hub, there are many wonderful women busy on their way to make their fashion footprint felt in the big city. This wonderful specimen up next, ticks all the fashion boxes for must-haves for this season…short denim shorts, a floral blazer, a silver necklace in a palm leaf optic, tan suede lace-up platforms and of course the matching bag slouched casually across one shoulder. Even the makeup is spot on trend: red hot lips and dark, defined eyebrows…and let us not forget the boho-inspired long hair!
