Don’t let the sun catch you off guard…this seems to be the mantra of our next model spotted on the streets of Cape Town…and with enough personality, he manages to work these sunglasses to the max! We love the simple colour choice here with just enough raw appeal with the studded shoulders and acid-washed jeans…after all, in the big city, we all want a bit of tough-boy attitude.

Try on these perfect summer jeans with enough street-worthy rips, from zara.com, at under 40 euros, indeed a fashion steal!

Stand out in the crowd with this amazing shirt from Givenchy, available through browsfashion.com at 365 pounds. We find the mix of tartan and floral very fresh and punchy enough to take you through summer.

Then go high tech with these gorgeous sneakers from the hot and new collaboration between Ricardo Tisci (of Givenchy!) and Nike, namely the must-have sneaker of the season, the Nike Air Force 1 High SP, retailing at 290 euros through store.nike.com

Blue is the colour of summer…think of sea-blue when on your belly at the beach, pale sky-blue just before the sun sets, early morning swimming pool blue and in the heady afternoon, peacock-blue…these are the colours we think of in the long wintery months and now, with summer on our doorstep, it is time to kick off our sandals and pull on our best shorts…here are a few of our faves and we hope you like the selection! We love bold prints…the bolder the better and that is why this blouse stopped us in our tracks in Cape Town…we love the clever bag as well (the Union Jack is never out of style, as far as we are concerned!) and of course, be practical on a summer’s day and wear some great flats Because the blouse stands front and centre here, we love that she keeps the hair simple, as well as the ‘almost not there’ makeup!

Want something fresh, then try this peplum top from Dorothy Perkins, available at 24 euros through the website. The peplum has been around for a few seasons now, but nothing is more feminine and flattering…and it takes you from business to the party afterwards…just change the earrings before you step out at night!

and we welcome the return of the 80’s with this great bumbag from topshop.com, retailing at 32 euros…take it from us…the bumbag (when worn the right way) is a great fashion piece to invest in

and splash out on a pair of python leather loafers from Rupert Sanderson on sale at 477 euros through matchesfashion.com because nothing is more decadent and nothing stays longer fashionable than snakeskin.

All good anthropologists will agree that it all began in Africa. From this bountiful continent, the world has been treated to jewels, trade and cultures that have kept the photo journalists and travelers open-mouthed for centuries. It should be no surprise that we should also turn to Africa for our inspiration. When Yves Saint Laurent wanted new ideas, he retreated to Morocco and from these journeys, he boldly took the fashion world by storm, not only with his masculine take on the feminine jackets (think Bianca Jagger in that white pantsuit) and but also with the bold colours that have made the house of Saint Laurent the legend that it now is…

Allow us then to add something from the creative melting pot, namely a designer we stumbled upon through kisua.com. The line is called Kiki Kamanu, named after the designer herself. A former Ford model, she is no stranger to fashion and trail-blazes her way across the global catwalks with her feminine and very African designs, using top-notch materials with a modern spin.

From her collaboration with Kisua, we love three pieces:
The kimono wrap jacket, selling at 250 dollars, the leopard print maxi dress (195 dollars) and the high waisted flared skirt (155 dollars).
The kimono jacket will take you from board meeting to cocktails in the evening and the maxi dress is the perfect holiday dress, so pack it into your suitcase and be sexy without showing too much skin…and the skirt is for the little girl in you who loves the playfulness of the high waist and the bold colours to turn a few heads as well.

All pieces are available through kisua.com under this link:

Look at any of the collections this season and the sporty look is evident. From Prada to Marni to Emilio Pucci…all want you to dress down and be sporty! It is a look that encompasses the freedom of sport and movement but with clever tailoring and high tech fabrics. Take our model above and below who cleverly takes the look and injects some urban flair. It has enough street credibility and the clever use of white just highlights the summer feeling on the Cape Town streets. We of course just love the hair! Whimsical and sexy all at once…

You of course, can be both stylish and sporty…a few seasons ago we would have laughed about bomber jackets and sport shoes worn with longer skirts. Now it is a clever look that makes navigating the city more comfortable without looking like a tourist in way-too sensible trekking shoes.

To Market, To Market...

This is the reason we here at Dashing George love Karl the Great…or Karl Lagerfeld to those not at our HQ! At the latest A/W 14 Show for Chanel, the master himself decided to take the show to the local grocer and this time he paraded his models through supermarket aisles where the ENTIRE store was filled with Chanel products…100 000 products in total!

A new idea and what a budget he must have to pull this off…but then again, the Chanel show is always the highlight of Fashion Week and Paris held its breath as the Chanel show opened…as do we when we look at the footage and photos…

Here are our favourites…as you can see, Karl upgraded all the normal grocery articles for us…like the ‘oldie’shopper trolley, the classic milk carton and the  good old shopping basket…and from the runway pictures we have a lot of grey and black heading our way for winter, but there were splashes of colour too…

Wonder of the Orient

For a while now, we have been looking for some great accessories. Something fresh and new and bold...not so easy in a market totally packed with cheap bling to get you through a season...and then we stumbled across this great line called 'A Peace Treaty'...and we love, love, love the collection...and as we are globalised to a fearful factor on our blog (with us now being based in both Switzerland and Germany), we love the fact that this collection comes from a dynamic duo, namely, a Pakistani goldsmith and a Libyan designer. And the proverbial cherry on the cake is that each piece is hand crafted and this way you allow an artisan to carry on working and you are preserving the design from a specific region.

Our pick of the crop would have to be this Sabratha necklace, retailing at 324 dollars , as well as this Wan Caza bangle, selling at 124 dollars and finally this Sabkha Midi ring, selling at 90 dollars. All pieces are available through  fab.com

Okay, so the weather reports are not looking too optimistic right now and we (at least in Europe) are not feeling the summer vibe quite yet…but my sources tell me that Cape Town is experiencing a bit of a heat wave right now…so we feel it appropriate to post this streetstyle spotted in summery South Africa…after all, who couldn’t love this floral blouse and statement sunglasses combo?

When in a mad rush, it is always good to have a super basic like this super bandeau top in a tropical print…you can wear it with any skirt length and under a blazer with huge earrings, it will turn you into a knock-out! you can get your hands on this one from topshop.com, through the website, where it retails at 18 euros!
http://tinyurl.com/odfgenj

Go french with a good pair of shorts from the brand we adore, Petit Bateau…see, mommies can look sexy too while shopping for their toddlers…you can grab these through their online site at under 74 euros
http://tinyurl.com/pyw97d5

And finally, what could be better than these vintage sunglasses by Fendi? Just saying the word vintage may make you cringe, but hey, they are no longer on the shelves so even harder to come by, but you can get a pair from farfetch.com for 230 CHF (yes, we are now retaling also in Swiss Francs!)

We are still on African time here at Dashing George and we found a lot of inspiration on the Cape Town streets…always a great city to be struck by bold colour and fearless fashion sense…and this next skirt from print goddess Diane Von Furstenberg is something that will certainly be spotted in sunny Cape Town! Available through netaporter.com, you can grab this mini at under 344 euros at the following link: http://tinyurl.com/lj472ta

Then add the sex appeal with these high heels (African women are not afraid of heels…the bigger the better!) from zara.com, retailing at under 70 euros through this link: http://tinyurl.com/m3tp57y

And to store the goodies you buy on your way through the city, then this amazing shopper will no doubt come in handy. The clever design will work with both mad prints and geometric simple clothing as well…so it’s worth the hefty price. It’s available directly through etro.com, at 1265 euros through the following link: http://tinyurl.com/lmeh7te

Go tribal with these stainless steel earrings from h&m, available through hm.com for under 5 euros! Our steal of the day indeed. You can find them through this link: http://tinyurl.com/la3eeyt

And make your look work in the evening by adding this jacket from Topshop, selling at 155 euros through topshop.com. Ignore the fact that the prints clash…this is what makes the outfit pop! You can find it through this link: http://tinyurl.com/lyzjt4w
